On Saturday, the Hebron Christian Lions took on the Langston Hughes Panthers in a battle of beaten teams at the annual Hawks-Naismith Holiday Classic and despite having to go without Georgia commit, Aubrey Beckham and junior guard, Gabby Minus, both out for the remainder of the season due to injury, the Lions were able to hold off the Panthers for the 62-55 win, improving to 8-0 on the season.

"I'm really proud of the girls for stepping up. They're having to play a lot more, some of our younger girls are having to play some for us now and so it's a great example of making sure you're ready when it's your turn" Hebron Christian head coach, Jan Azar said as she praised her players for their efforts in Saturday's win.

While the game was close early on in the first quarter, the Lions would close out the opening period with a 15-6 lead, a lead they would never relinquish despite efforts from Langston Hughes, who kept the second and third quarters close, however were outscored in each period by a point and trailed 43-32 heading into the fourth quarter, which would be the only period they would outscore the Lions, however not enough to overcome the early nine point deficit.

The Lions were also able to take advantage of Langston Hughes senior forward and Georgia Tech commit, McKayla Taylor's limited minutes as she was only on the court for 16 minutes due to early foul trouble. With Taylor's absence, Hebron Christian senior and Auburn commit, JaKerra Butler made her presence felt as she finished with 21 points, 17 rebounds and two blocked shots. The Lions also got a 17 points 10 rebound performance from senior and Miami commit, Danielle Osho.

"You know, our hashtag for the season is relentless because we really want to get after it defensively and now with a little bit more limited roster, we're backing off a little bit but we still want to stay relentless but our new hashtag has to be just find a way," Azar said as the Lions look to adjust to finishing the season without Beckham and Minus.
