HS Football Week 7 Predictions - Game of the Week Westlake vs Langston Hughes
1. Westlake (3-1) vs Langston Hughes (4-0) – Westlake bounced back from their loss to Hillgrove with a 50 -35 win over Shiloh. Concerns would the defense for the Lions because even though they put up 50 against the Generals, both teams scored 21 points in the first quarter but Westlake’s D settled in in the second quarter. However, they allowed 42 to Hillgrove making it two weeks straight that they had some troubles on that side of the ball. We know the Lions can score with quarterback RJ Johnson and running back Zina Mulbah, but so can Langston Hughes, scoring 35 vs Mays, 29 vs M.L. King, and 34 last week vs Cambridge. On the flip side, the Langston defense has only allowed 10.2 points per game and they got some dawgs on that defense. Linebacker Gannon Weathersby – 36 tackles, 3 sacks and 1 forced fumble through the first three games. Pick: Westlake
2. Pace Academy (2-2) vs Lovett (3-1) - After dropping their season opener, Lovett rolled off three straight region wins, averaging 37 ppg and only allowing 6 ppg in those three. Even in their only loss, they gave up 10 points to GAC, so this is a defense that comes to hold their own. Pace has been up and down literally winning the opener, losing in week two, huge win in week three but then dropping a conference game to South Atlanta last week, 22-14. Outside of their win over McNair, the Knights have not really been that dominant on offense, only averaging about 12 ppg in the other three contest. Mind you, South Atlanta who they loss to last week, loss to Lovett 37-12. Series meetings between the two is tied 3-3 and they split the last two meetings. Pick: Lovett
Riverwood (3-1) vs River Ridge (4-0) - The Raiders are coming into this one with a chip on their shoulder as they suffered their first loss of the season last week at the hands of Johns Creek. What was lining up to be a battle of undefeated teams now has Riverwood in need of a win to remain in the top four spots of the region standings. Although the Raiders average almost 40 ppg, their loss to Johns Creek and their 29-26 win over Woodeard Academy shows that their defense has a tendency to be laxed, something they cannot afford to be against a River Ridge team that also averages 40 ppg. With a little motivation to stay in the region title hunt and home field advantage, I'm giving the edge to Riverwood. Pick: Riverwood
