Indians Escape Cougars' Final Attack, East Coweta Holds Off Newnan For Region Title And No. 1 Seed

As expected, the East Coweta Indians and Newnan Cougars put on another classic rivalry match, however this time around, the region title and number one seed for the Georgia High School Association playoffs on the line. The Indians would get off to a quick start offensively and defensively. They would stop Newnan's opening drive when PierreRobinson would intercept a Michael McGinnis pass and on the ensuing possession, East Coweta quarterback Daniel Shoch would throw a touchdown pass to Amariyon Moss and the Indians would go up 7-0. In the second quarter, East Coweta would find themselves with a 10-0 lead, but Newnan would get on the board after a rushing touchdown by running back Byron Moss. The extra point would be blocked so the Cougars would trail 10-6. Shoch and crew would later go up 17-6 after a Jayden Bolton rushing touchdown. Bolton would finish with over 100 yards rushing and the one touchdown. The Cougars would not let the half end without scoring once more themselves as McGinnis would connect with Josh Harris and they would trail 17-13 at the half. In the third quarter, Newnan would take their first lead of the game after McGinnis threw his second touchdown of the night, hitting Quanard Arnold, and they would go up 20-17. The Indians would respond as Shoch would throw his second touchdown of the night finding Hazia Phillips to help the Indians regain the lead and go up 24-20. In the fourth quarter, East Coweta would tack on a field goal and take a 27-20 lead, but with just over a minute to go in the quarter, the Cougars would score on McGinnis's touchdown pass to Harris, the second time of the night the two would connect for a score. But the special teams of the Indians would come up big once again and block another extra point attempt and escape the 27-26 win and the GHSA 7A Region 2 championship.
