Jabari Smith, Raven Johnson Named Mr. and Miss Georgia Basketball In Atlanta Tipoff Club Honors

On Wednesday, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced their 2021 Atlanta metro high school basketball honors and to no surprise, Westlake’s Raven Johnson, who is headed to the Dawn Staley led South Carolina Gamecocks and Sandy Creek’s Jabari Smith, an auburn commit, were named Miss and Mr. Georgia Basketball respectively. For Johnson, the Tipoff honor adds to a high school career that saw her win four consecutive Georgia High School Association state championships, including the 2021 GHSA 6A title.


Both Johnson and Smith were named to the McDonald’s All-American teams final rosters and both were named to Naismith All-American first teams. Other top honors included Pace Academy’s Matthew Cleveland, who is headed to Florida State and McEachern’s Jillian Hollingshead, a University of Georgia commit, were named Atlanta Metro High School Boys and Girls Player of the Year.


Coaching honors included Marietta girls basketball’s Derrick DeWitt and Milton boys basketball’ Allen Whitehart were both earned Cremins High School Coach of the Year honors. DeWitt led his Lady Blue Devils to a 2021 GHSA 7A state championship win, their first in over 50 years, while Whitehart let the Eagles to the 2021 GHSA 7A boys state title, their first championship since 2010. Whitehart and the Eagles will also be taking part in the GEICO Nationals which will begin at the end of March.


The 2021 Atlanta All-Metro Girls and Boys teams were also announced with the girl’s first team including Woodward Academy’s Sydney Bowles, Westlake’s Ta’Niya Latson, Hebron Christian’s Malia Fisher, Forest Park’s Sania Feagin, and Carrollton’s De’Mauri Flournoy. Bowles, Latson and Fisher each helped their teams win 2021 GHSA state championships for their respective classifications. Boy’s first team honors went to Milton’s Bruce Thorton, Grayson’s Ian Schieffelin, North Gwinnett’s R.J. Godfrey, Tri Cities’ Peyton Daniels, and Kell’s Scoot Henderson.
