Johns Creek Hands Riverwood First Loss With 3-0 Win, Improves 2-0 In Region Play
Region play continued on Tuesday night as the Johns Creek Gladiators and Riverwood Raiders boys soccer teams faced off, each looking to improve to 2-0 in the region standings. The Gladiators would estasbilsh themselves early and take control following goals by Noel Sanguinetti and Knox Odendahl to give them a 2-0 lead in the first half. Overall, the Raiders' attack was getting them good shots, however, accuracy and the play of Johns Creek keeper, CJ Wyborn, would keep Riverwood from connecting. The Gladiators would add a third goal in the second half courtesy of Kameron Gerst, assisted by Sanguinetti, and Johns Creek would go on to pick up the 3-0 win.
Following the game, Johns Creek head coach Kelly Bowler gave all the credit to his players for the win. "I just asked the boys to come out ready to play and they stepped up big time, " Bowler said after the win. He continued, "This is the best team that's ever come through Johns Creek High School and they're going to prove it every single night and they wanted to show it from start tonight, so that was all them. Nothing the coaches did, all them." When asked about what he would like to see out of his team as the season progresses, Bowler stated that playing fast is important for them. "When we play fast, we're nasty, so if we keep playing fast, we'll keep making opponents lives miserable. They work hard and we're thrilled and ready to go."
