Langston Hughes Cruises To Campbell Holiday Classic Win Over Roswell

Langston Hughes' Tamia Stargell (#1) splits Roswell defenders Lani Tibbetts (#12) and Liat Klemm (#14)

On Tuesday, the Langston Hughes Panthers and the Roswell Hornets returned to action from the Christmas holiday break to face off against one another on day one of the Campbell Spartans annual holiday classic. The two teams kept things relatively close throughout the first quarter, but in the second period of play, the Panthers would take control and open up to a 43-20 lead by halftime.

Langston’s dominance continued throughout the second half of the game as their defensive pressure forced several Roswell turnovers, many of which the Panthers capitalized on by scoring. The Panthers would go on to pick up a 71-35 win advancing to the second round of the championship bracket. Langston’s Raven Thompson led all players with 17 points.

Following the win, Langston Hughes head coach, Xavier Trice, said it was good seeing his girls get the win on Tuesday, in particularly due to the fact that the team was only able to get one day of practice because they had to quarantine because of COVID-19. “It was great being able to get the win,” Trice said noting that the win also gives them the much needed momentum coming off the break.
