Leadership key for Langston Hughes Panthers Girls Basketball
The Georgia High School Association basketball season is heading into the final stretch of the regular season as teams look to secure seeding ahead of their respective region tournaments. On Saturday, the Langston Hughes Panthers girls basketball team game themselves a two game cushion in the Class 5A, Region 3 standings thanks to their 62-40 win over the Morrow Mustangs, improving to 12-0 in region play and 21-2 overall.
With the just two games left in the regular season, both against region opponents, the Panthers will look to secure the number one seed for their region tournament, which they will do by winning at least one of their next two and most importantly, can head into the tournament with plenty of momentum behind them.
"Any wins this time of year are great. We're just trying to tighten up some things and try to make sure e are healthy and playing the best brand of basketball this time of year," Langston Hughes head coach, Xavier Trice said after their win on Saturday.
The Panthers will undoubtedly be a Class 5A title favorite as they have averaged nearly 70 points per game this season, with notable wins over Holy Innocents, Hoover (Alabama), Hebron Christian and St. Francis, and they will look to continue relying on leadership as they prepare for the road to Macon to begin.
"I've had some pretty good teams but the focus that they have right now is probably the most important thing that I've been seeing," Trice said of his players and how well they have been performing this season and will need to continue in order to accomplish their season goal of winning a state title.
