Lovejoy Stays Hot With Win Over Banneker, Five Straight Wins
As the 2021-2022 Georgia High School Association basketball season has gotten underway, the Lovejoy Wildcats have been one of Georgia’s highest scoring teams, with an average margin of victory of almost 65 points per game. Heading into their Friday match up with the Banneker Trojans, the Wildcats were 5-1 and winners of their last four games, in which they have scored over 70 points in all five victories, including two 100 point games.
Lovejoy looked to keep their hot hands going as they got off to an early 11-0 lead after a sluggish start, however in the second quarter, the Trojans would battle back to get within five as they trailed 14-9, but from there, Lovejoy would go on a 15-1 run to close out the second quarter with a 29-10 lead at the half. Lovejoy defensive pressure would continue to cause problems for the Trojans as the Wildcats would go on to pick up the 71-22 win for their fifth straight win.
Following the game, Lovejoy head coach, Cedric King talked about the sluggish start his Wildcats had saying essentially, they were their own enemy to start the game. “We’re fighting us. If we can get with us, we’ll be a better team,” King said, adding that it’s all about their “mindset” and preparing to play for each game. King noted that he has been impressed with how his team has been able to score, with Friday’s win bring their average ppg to 83.
