Luella Improves To 15-2 With 75-42 Region Win Over Mt. Zion
On Tuesday, the Luella Lady Lions basketball team hit the road to take on the Mt. Zion Lady Bulldogs in a key region match up in which, the a win for the Lions would keep them at the top of the region standings with no losses. A win for the Bulldogs would allow them to split the region series with the Lions and keep them pacing with Luella in the region standings. In the first and second quarters, the Bulldogs kept themselves in the contest and in a decent position despite several turnovers and missed opportunities as they only trailed 33-25 at the half. However, in the third quarter, the Lions would turn up the defensive intensity and close out the quarter with a 51-32 lead as they outscored Mt. Zion 18-7 in the period. In the fourth quarter, the trend continued as the Lions would outscore the Bulldogs 24-10 to pick up the 75-42 win and sweep Mt. Zion in the region series. With the win, Luella also improved to 15-2 overall and 7-0 in the region standings. Luella's Jada Sessions would lead all players with 24 points along with 10 rebounds in the win, while teammates, Ariana Dyson would add 15 points and eight rebounds, Courtney Gardner 11 points with six assist and Camryn Berry would end the night with 10 points and three steals.
