M.L. King HS Names Athletics Facility After Former Standout and Tennessee Titans' Kevin Byard

On Friday, Tennessee Titans’ safety and Pro Bowler, Kevin Byard was honored at his high school alma mater, M.L. King High School, in Stonecrest, Georgia, with the renaming of their athletic facility after Byard. “God has blessed me tremendously, obviously, the life I’m able to live with my family,” Byard said during Friday’s event in which the revealing of the school’s new weight training room, that Byard made a financial donation towards.


“When I first got here, I just wanted to make a name for myself and make the alumni proud,” Byard said as reflected on his early days as a football and track and field student athlete at M.L. King. The naming of the M.L. King Athletics facility was spearheaded by Byard’s former track coach, Brandi Bush, who said that the impact of the naming ceremony for Byard was “great” for the entire M.L. King High School community.



“This is huge, not only for me but for the school, for the community,” Bush said of the event in which she also wanted to help inspire the current King football and track and field student athletes in addition to honoring Byard. The ceremony was attended by a small group that included several of Byard King teammates as well as close family and friends, including his wife and mother, whom Byard said being able to celebrate the event on Mother’s Day weekend made it “a great weekend”.
