M.L. King remains third in region standings after 70-43 win over Stone Mountain and Decatur loss
On Friday, the M.L. King Lady Lions basketball team was in action in a region match up with the Stone Mountain Pirates. For the Lions, a win on the night could help them remain in the third place position in the region standings and with it being senior night and the first home game with fans in attendance, King came out hot opening up on a 9-1 run. The Pirates would eventually gather themselves and battle back to trail 18-13 at the end of the first quarter. Stone Mountain would open up the second period on a 5-0 run to eventually tie the game 18-18, but it would not take long for the Lions to get back to the defensive pressure they started the game with and regain the lead and close out the second quarter with a 38-26 lead at the half. Part of what helped the Lions to have such a strong performance in the second period was the presence of senior center, Kamora Reynolds (16 points) in the middle. The Pirates were not able to keep her off the board and she took advantage by capitalizing on second chance shots. The Lions also got a very solid performance from guard Jana Berry who finished with 21 points in the win. With the Lions getting the win and Decatur losing to St. Pius Friday night, King remains in third place in the region standings and now two games ahead of Decatur. The Lions will close out the regular season on Tuesday when they face St. Pius. Watch highlights from the game and post game interview with M.L. King head coach Vincent Gatling below now!
