Marietta seniors leaving heart in legacy of Blue Devils' wrestling

Marietta senior Isaac Phillips picks up a win by fall over St. Pius' Jack Breen

On Wednesday, seniors for the Marietta Blu Devils wrestling team sported the legendary robes, signifying a long standing tradition in senior night celebrations for the Marietta wrestling program as they hosted the St. Pius Golden Lions and Decatur Bulldogs for a tri-match.

"It's the same thing we preach all the time. We want to win, of course we want to be competitive, but the biggest thing, and you can ask any one of them, we tell them this from the minute they step on the mat, is that we're more concerned with what kind of men and women you become after you leave here," Marietta head coach, Tommy Carthers said during Wednesday's senior celebration.

"The heart of this senior class," Carthers said as he explained the Blue Devils 2025 wrestling class will have a special place in his heart, adding, "these kids are just phenomenal people, they're going to give you everything they've got and I feel like everyone of them is going to be a great success, whatever they choose to do because they have shown me the skies the limit with all of them," Carthers said of his senior group.
