Marietta Takes Down Riverwood In Dual Meet Action
On Wednesday, the Marietta Blue Devils wrestling team hosted the Riverwood Raiders in a dual meet as both teams prepare for the regular season come to an end just ahead of team dual championships and the traditional championship tournament. The Blue Devils would get the day going taking the first two matches as Arian Mazloon would win the 170 weight class by fall in the third round and Ben Valentin would win 182 by fall.
Riverwood would battle back as Davis Hill would hold on to win 195 9-8 as time expired in the third round of the match and Oliver Powell would win 126 in a dominating way picking up the win by fall 47 seconds into the match. The Blue Devils would then respond would with victories by Malachi Sanders, who won 138 by fall, and Ely Early, who would win 160 by fall 38 seconds into the second round. The Blue Devils would go on to win the match, 51-24.
Following the match, Marietta head Coach, Tommy Carthers said it was good for his guys to get the win to help build momentum heading into post-season matches. “This is a good tune up, a good opportunity for us to get the kinks out and work on things that we want to perfect because the end of the season is coming up, so we want to make sure we’re ready for when it’s the win or go home part of the season,” Carthers said following Wednesday’s win.
