Marist Opens Season With New Coach And Win Over Dunwoody

Dunwoody's Gaby Depaz (#13) battles Marist's Lauren Darke (#24) in the draw

It’s a new season with a new head coach for the Marist War Eagles girls lacrosse team and on Wednesday, the War Eagles hosted the Dunwoody Wildcats in a season opening match up for both teams as well as the contest being an area game for both the War Eagles and Wildcats. Looking to get the game off on a good note for Coach Sean Dever in his debut as the War Eagles head coach, Marist opened up the first half on a 6-2 run.

The Wildcats would look to slow the War Eagles down as they cut the Marist lead to three points following an Emily Wallace goal, which made it a 6-3 game by halftime. However, the War Eagles would come out with momentum in their favor in the second half as they opened up with an 4-0 run to take a 10-3 lead. Back to back goals by the Wildcats would once again cut the War Eagles lead in half, but Marist would quickly get back on track, closing out the game with a 5-0 run in route to a 15-5 win over Dunwoody.

“We did a lot of good stuff today, there’s a lot we still need to work on,” Dever said following Wednesday’s season opening win. Noting that with this is his first season as the head coach of the War Eagles, “we’re kind of implementing a new system here,” as he and his staff look to work turn things around after a 6-10 season last year. “Just really proud of how they played, but we have a lot we have to work on for the next game though,” Dever said. Marist will travel to face Lovett on Tuesday.
