McIntosh Invitational Kicks Off 2021 Season For Georgia Wrestlers
As the 2021-2022 Georgia High School Association wrestling season got underway this week, the McIntosh Chiefs hosted their annual invitational with teams from around the state on hand. It would be a good day for host McIntosh as they would place second in the invitational, but it would be the Pace Academy Knights having a pretty dominate day to win the team portion on the invitational.
The Knights picked up four first place wins including Ben Schiffer at 126, Sam Howe at 152, Henry Leusink at 160 and Jude Black at 170. Pace’s Will Moore would get a second place finish at 182, while teammate Alex Mathias finished the day with a third place finish. The Knights would total 227 points at the end of the invitational.
A highlight from the meet came for Luella freshman, Zavien Bush. Bush, a first year wrestler, found himself wrestling for the 106 championship but would fall to Miles Butler of Morgan County by pinfall. Following his first win in his opening match, Bush was feeling “great” about the start of his wrestling career. “I still need to put more work in,” Bush said, noting that this is just the beginning for him and that he looks forward to “more wins”.
