North Atlanta 10-0 Win Over Westlake Sets up Region Championship Against Lakeside
On Wednesday, the North Atlanta Warriors girls soccer team traveled to take on the Westlake Lions in a region match up, in which a win for the Warriors would set them up for a battle with Lakeside for the region title on Thursday. The Warriors, well aware that they could not look past Westlake, came out aggressive as they would take a 6-0 lead in the first half. Both Lexi Perry (2 goals) and Odalis Tapia (2 goals) combined for four of the North Atlanta first half goals.
In the second half, the Lions continued to struggle to generate any type of offensive attack and the Warriors would continue to take advantage of the lack of offense by Westlake as they would add four more goals in the second half to pick up the 10-0 win. By picking up the victory, North Atlanta will now face Lakeside on Thursday for the Georgia High School Association Class 6A Region 4 championship as both teams are unbeaten in region play.
Following the game, North Atlanta head coach Greg Baeza stated that it was important for his team to come out and not take Westlake “lightly”, especially with the contest being a region game. “We knew anything could happen on any given day, so we wanted to make sure we came out strong,” Baeza said of the Warriors’ performance. Now with Thursday’s tilt with Lakeside for the region championship, Baeza, said it was also key that on top of getting the win, it was important for them to get “their touches and minutes” to help prepare for Thursday’s game against Lakeside.
