North Cobb caps senior night with win over Chapel Hill, improving to 20-1 on the season

On Tuesday, the North Cobb Warriors softball team posted their 20th win of the season, marking the third consecutive season in which the Warriors have reached the mark, with Tuesday’s win also coming on a night in which they celebrated their four seniors, Skyler Dekle, Aubrey Ward, Kate Self, and Rileigh Queen.

“It’s nice to always celebrate those seniors because obviously they put in a lot of hard work,” North Cobb head coach, Mike Turchan, said as he praised the four seniors for the efforts they have put in throughout their softball career over the years.

“Just about every one of them has been playing since six or seven years old, so even though some might be going on and some might not be, it’s good to just step back and celebrate them and their families for all the time they’ve put in. It’s always a special day,” Turchan added about the four seniors and their contributions to the team’s success over the years.

And with Tuesday’s win being their 10th in a row, the second time this season in which they have won 10 consecutive games, Turchan believes the experience of the Warriors’ seniors in addition to several other players’ contributions have been vital in their success this season.

“I think what’s impressed me the most is that one game you have a few who are stepping up, picking some people up and then the next game it might be the three that weren’t there in that first game. So really everyone has been contributing,” Turchan said of his players.

And while this season may be the last of their high school career, there is plenty of softball remaining for the Warriors, who look to return to Columbus for the Georgia High School Association state championship tournament, which they advanced to the final four last season and ended the year at 31-3 overall.

And with the 2023 campaign not quite coming to the end the Warriors hoped for, Turchan believes that making the trip to Columbus has without a doubt, fueled his team’s ambitions to make the return. “You have the vision now.

You talk about it and all you can do is paint the picture and now you don’t have to paint it anymore. We know what it was like, we know what it felt it,” Turchan said of the Warriors goals to have continued success down the stretch of the season, adding that they’ll simply need to go out and “play the game” and “lay it all on the line”.
