North Cobb holds off late McEachern rally for 45-33 win

Earlier this week, North Cobb head coach, Shane Queen gave hi offensive line high praise for their performance in the Warriors 49-21 win over Archer in their season opener. On Friday, the Warriors got an encore performance from their big guys up front as North Cobb defeated McEachern 45-33 on Friday to improve to 2-0 on the season.

“I have to give it to my o-line, they blocked their butts off tonight,” North Cobb quarterback, Nick Grimstead said following the Warriors win on Friday. Grimstead, who threw for 323 yards and three touchdowns, while rushing for two touchdowns on 65 yards on Friday, credited the North Cobb offensive line for recognizing McEachern packing the box and “handling it well,”.

“We had to communicate this game and I think they did it perfectly and we just played ball,” Grimstead added. At the start of the game, the Warriors would take a 17-0 lead that included one of the senior quarterback’s touchdown tosses.

After McEachern would score 10 unanswered points to cut the North Cobb lead down to seven points as they trailed 17-10, Grimstead would tack on two more touchdowns through the air, including an 80-yard strike to Steele Ingram, who finished with two receiving touchdowns and 189 yards on four catches, to extend the lead to 31-10.

“We do run the ball, but we can throw too so if you’re going to walk down in our receivers’ face, we’re going to take that shot,” Grimstead said of the Warriors pass attack. In the second half, after the Warriors would take a 39-13 lead, McEachern would score 20 unanswered points, sparked by a Jayreon Campbell rushing touchdown and capped with 79 yard touchdown run by quarterback, Zah’lin Bell.

And while Campbell would finish with 169 rushing yards and Bell would pass for 217 yards, while rushing for 142, the McEachern offense found themselves stalling late, with North Cobb taking advantage as they would get an insurance touchdown from Grimstead after he rushed for his second touchdown on the ground of the night to give the Warriors the 45-33 lead.

With the win, North Cobb improved to 2-0, while McEachern drops to 0-2 on the season.
