Panthers Dominate In Win, Langston Hughes Defeats Northside-Warner Robins 27-0 Advance To 6A 2nd RD


In the opening round of the Georgia High School Association football state playoffs, the Langston Hughes Panthers hosted the Northside- Warner Robins Eagles in the opening round of Class 6A action. The Panthers would set the tone on both sides of the ball very early in the contest. On their opening drive, Panthers' junior quarterback Xavier Smith would connect with senior wide receiver, Marquez Cowins, for a 50 yard completion setting the Panthers up with a first and goal at the Eagles' three yard line. Smith would then score on a quarterback keeper to the outside and Langston Hughes would take a 7-0 lead. As the Panthers defense held The Eagles scoreless throughout the first quarter, Smith and Cowins would connect again in the second quarter, this time for a 50 yard touchdown as the Panthers would go up 13-0. Later in the second quarter, Smith would rush for his second touchdown of the game to put Langston Hughes up 20-0 and before the half, freshman quarterback Prentiss Noland would throw a touchdown pass to Terrance Love giving the Panthers a 27-0 lead at the half. That would also be the final score. Defensively, the Panthers recovered two fumbles and would pick off have three interceptions in the win giving them solid and dominating performances on both sides of the ball. Langston hughes will face Glynn Academy in round two of the playoffs. Watch highlights from the game below now!
