PSN Minute: West Forsyth knows 'communicating well' will be key

"A lot of people look forward to summer because there's no school and they get to go on vacation and go to the pool, I look forward to summer because I get to see my guys again," West Forsyth Wolverines football head coach Dave Svehla said on Wednesday as the Wolverines participated in the final day of the annual Corky Kell-Dave Hunter 7v7 Shootout. With about a week and half under their belt since the end of spring football, Svehla said he is overall pleased with the performance of his player since they have returned for summer workouts.

"I like this kind of competition because this is the kind of level you're going to have to play at if you want to have success during the season," Svehla said of how participating in events like Wednesday's 7v7 helps prepare them for the regular season. Svehla added that as the Wolverines take the next two months to start getting ready for the 2024 season, "more than anything for us, it's just making sure that we're communicating well and that we understand our assignments," will be important areas of focus.

"Defensively, we've had some bust, but again we're playing some new guys. This is their first competition of this sort, so we'll get a lot of those things fixed. In some ways you want kids to make mistakes so that you can coach those mistakes, so they can watch it on film and then go 'oh, ok now I see it'" the West Forsyth head coach said. The Wolverines will open up the season on August 16 when they take on Prince Avenue.
