Stone Mountain Pirates host Jerun Tillery Memorial Duals

On Saturday, the Stone Mountain Pirates played host to the 10th Annual Jerun Tillery Memorial Duals, a high school wrestling event that honors the life of former Redan High School wrestler, Jerun Tillery who tragically passed away in a car accident while home on break from college. The memory and legacy of Tillery has been able to shine through the annual event thanks to his father and legendary Georgia high school wrestling coach, Jerome Tillery.

“In honor of him, we host this tournament every year and we’re going to continue to do it,” Tillery said of the event. Both father and son were inducted into the Georgia Kids Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2005, something Jerome Tillery says is a “privilege” and thank he is thankful for. “First of all, I give honor to God,” Tillery said of his 34 year coaching career in which he has coached several wrestlers to state championships.

Some of the schools participating in this year’s memorial included Columbia, South Gwinnett, Arabia Mountain, Miller Grove, and Lakeside-Dekalb. Host Stone Mountain kicked off the event with a win over Columbia.
