PSN Spotlight: McEachern Indians Football As Kareem Reid Era Begins
A new era of McEachern Indians football has begun with new head coach, Kareem Reid, who is returning to the high school sidelines after spending some time at the collegiate level. Reid previously served as the head coach of Westlake from 2016 to 2018 before heading down to lead Griffin from 2019-2020 and then Reid would make the jump to the college sidelines where he served as director of player development at his alma mater, University of Central Florida in 2021 and then moved on to the Florida Gators the following season.
Now, with his return to coaching high school football and having coached against McEachern while at Westlake, Reid knew that the Indians program would be one he would want to take over. “McEachern was a place that I always viewed as like a dream job as a head coach when I was here at Westlake previously and then Griffin. I always kind of admired the things they had,” Reid said, admitting that the facilities and resources in addition to the talent level made him a bit “envious” at times of the McEachern program.
And as Reid transitions back to high school football, he acknowledged that his experiences at Central Florida and Florida have been extremely valuable as he continues to grow as coach and he is looking forward to being to bring what he has learned with him to McEachern. “I sat in the room with some really talented football minds and so I think me coming back now, I’m going to be even more polished now than I was before,” Reid said of his time at the collegiate level.
Reid and his staff have quickly gotten down to business with their install of culture and expectations as they lay the foundation of what they look to build at McEachern and Reid says it begins with “the fundamentals and doing all the little things right and paying attention to detail. So for our guys, I just want us to go about our business the right way. A lot of times, it’s not about what you do, it’s how you do it, so we want to emphasize how we do things in this program,”.
