PSN Spotlight - Pace Academy Knights Flag Football
When the Georgia High School Assocition sanctioned flag football to start in the 2020-2021 season, the Pace Academy Knights came out of the gate running and to date is one of the state's top programs with a record of 70-13-1 to date under head coach, Ty Johnson, who has been with the program since its start.
"The growth of the game has been absolutely amazing," Johnson said in an interview with Prep Sports Nation's Daminon Lewis, as she shared her thoughts on watching as well as being a part of the evolution of flag football in Georgia. "The competitiveness goes up every single year. The coaches are getting better, the athletes are getting better because it's such a fun and exciting sports," Johnson added.
On Monday, the Knights will be back in action as they take on South Effingham in the third round of the GHSA Division 3 state championship tournament and will to keep their hunt for their first state title going and in order to do so, Johnson believes "focus" will be key to completing a successful run for the Knights.
"Making sure we that we do the small things, catch the ball first, pull the flags, those are the things that are going to help us excel," Johnson said, noting that for not only the Knights, teams that have reached the playoffs understand they will have players you will also be focused on academic related areas.
"Being at the end of the year, the girls are worried about exams, worried about college acceptance letters, so staying focused on the things that make us great and that's the small things, playing together, playing as one in doing the little things," Johnson added.
