On Thursday, the Fulton County Swimming Championship were held as the defending County Champs, the Johns Creek Gladiators, looked to defend their title on a night where several meet records would be broken. The Gladiators would get the day started on a good note as the boys 200 medley relay team would get Johns Creek their first win of the day with a record setting first place finish of 1:36.34. The previous record of 1:38.10, was also set by Johns Creek.
The girls 200 medley relay would go to the Cambridge Bears, who would finish in a time of 1:52.21, helping the Lady Bears get off to a great start as they would eventually win the girls division championship. Centennials’ Sebastien Sergile would have one of the top performances of the day as he would set a new record in the boys 200 freestyle with a first place finish of 1:38.21. The finish would also be an in season best for Sergile, who said that although he was looking to finish with a good time, he surprised himself a bit with the finish.
“It was definitely a big accomplishment for me, coming off a tough winter training cycle, it really means a lot,” Sergile said following his 200 freestyle win, adding, “I wasn’t really expecting to go that time, but super glad I could get it done”. Another meet record that was broken was in the boys 200 individual medley in which Alpharetta’s Thomas Xiao set a new time with his first place finish of 1:54.13. In the end, Johns Creek would defend their title, winning the combined meet as their boys placed first and girls finished second behind Cambridge.
