As teams begin to wrap up their regular season of the 2024-2025 Georgia High School Association basketball season, the South Atlanta Hornets traveled to take on the Drew Charter Eagles in the season finale for both teams, with the Hornets looking to complete the regular season series sweep of the Eagles.

With the Class 2A, Region 6 tournament set to begin next week, both South Atlanta and Drew Charter entered Thursday's contest looking to keep momentum heading into the tournament and in the first quarter, the two teams traded blows as the opening period remained close and the Eagles taking a 9-8 lead to close out the quarter.

However, in the second quarter, the Eagles would get a lift from junior, Vincent Kray, as he would score six of his 21 points on the night in the quarter, helping Drew outscore the Hornets 16-13 in the period and taking a 25-21 lead into the locker room at the half.

As the third quarter got underway, the Hornets would be the more dominant team, outscoring the Eagles 17-5, with junior Duor Duor leading the way with six of his 13 points in the period, as South Atlanta would take a 38-30 lead into the start of the fourth quarter, which the Eagles would actually outscore the Hornets 19-15, but that would not be enough to overcome trailing by as many as 16 points earlier in the final period of play.

"I feel like in the first half we didn't really attack the basket with force," South Atlanta head coach, Stefon Porter Jr., said of the adjustments the Hornets made in the second half. "We missed a lot of layups at the rim so in the third quarter, the emphasis was just attack the basket, finish strong and I think we did a better job of that in the third quarter and ultimately that's what led to us going on a run," Porter Jr. added.

Now with Thursday's win giving the Hornets a three game win streak to ride into the region tournament, Porter Jr. says while the win adds to the Hornets' momentum, he wants his players to focus on "playing the right way" next week.
