South Cobb advances to region semifinals, punches ticket to GHSA 6A state championship tournament
On Wednesday, the South Cobb Eagles and Sprayberry Yellow Jackets boys basketball teams faced off in the quarterfinals of the Georgia High School Association Class 6A Region 6 tournament. Although South Cobb won both regular season match ups against Sprayberry, with a chance to move on to the semifinals of the tournament and qualify for the GHSA 6A state championship tournament, the Yellow Jackets would come out aggressive and find themselves up by four points early in the second quarter. Trailing 16-14, the Eagles would go on a quick 6-0 run sparked by Baqi Lecky (8pts) and take a 20-16 lead. South Cobb would go on to close out the second quarter with a 27-23 lead. In the third quarter, the Eagles would rely on their defensive pressure to help create offense as they forced several Yellow Jacket turnove rs and opened up the quarter on an 11-0 run to take a 38-23 lead. The defensive intensity would prove to be problematic for the Yellow Jackets all throughout the second half as they would trail 55-32 by the end of the third quarter and eventually fall to South Cobb, 77-42.
