Sprayberry Remains At The Top Of Region With Double OT Win Over Alpharetta

Alpharetta's Daniel Klecker (black jersey) battles Sprayberry's Edwin Gonzalez (white jersey) for ball possession

On Tuesday, the Sprayberry Yellow Jackets boys soccer team was on the road to a key region matchup against the Alpharetta Raiders as the Raiders looked to pick up their first region win of the season, while Sprayberry could remain unbeaten in region play with the win. Both teams played well defensively as they combined for less than 10 shots on goal and the first goal of the game would not come until nearly 35 minutes into the match. As the Yellow Jackets would strike first thanks to an Alan Faria goal.

Both defenses continued to play well in the second half as the Raiders would find themselves still in search of their first goal with less than three minutes remaining in the match. However, Alpharetta would get their break thanks to a corner kick which would lead to a Caleb Meadows goal, equalizing the match and eventually sending it into overtime. The first OT period would see neither team finding the back of the net and eventually, the game would head into a second overtime period.

In the second OT period, as both teams continued to play tough with the physical play picking up, a late corner kick for Sprayberry would be the deciding factor as Soren Bednar would score his first goal of the night, giving the Yellow Jackets a 2-1 lead. With time not on their side, the Raiders would unfortunately come up short as Sprayberry would pick up the 2-1 win, improving to 9-2 overall and 4-0 in region play.
