Strong Finish For Janie Cooper As Westminster Wins Dual Meet With Whitefield Academy
On Tuesday, the Westminster Wildcats girls country team hosted Whitefield Academy in a dual meet in which the Wildcats would win taking first, second and third convincingly as Janie Cooper would take first in a time of 19:59 with her teammates Palmer Walstad (second) and Cate Stevens (third) coming in about 50 meters behind. But what was most impressive was that the three runners would finish over 400 meters ahead of the rest of the pack.
Following the meet, Cooper discussed pacing with Walstad and Stevens, before eventually pulling away for the strong finish. “Me and my teammates, we were kind of tempo for most of the run and at the end I felt great and so I just took advantage of that and sped up a little bit,” Cooper said of her win on Tuesday.
Overall, Cooper said Tuesday’s goal was not necessarily to set a new PR, however she is looking forward to working towards breaking 19 minutes. “I’m actually trying to break 19 minutes,” Cooper said, something she hopes to do when the Wildcats participate in the annual “Coach Wood Invitational” which will take place October 16 at McIntosh High School. “If not then, then at the next one. We’re going to keep pushing and see what we can do,” said Cooper.
