Strong first half leads Whitewater to 4-0 win over Trinity Christian
On Friday, the Whitewater Wildcats boys soccer team opened region play against the Trinity Christian School Lions, who entered the night at 5-1 overall and 2-0 in region play and having won their last five games. Meanwhile, the Wildcats came into the match having won their last three games and with a 4-2 record, the Wildcats looked to keep momentum behind them.
As the match got underway, Whitewater looked to set the tempo relying on their speed to keep the Lions on their heels, which would prove to be an effective strategy as they would four goals in the first half, including two by sophomore, Maddox Strickland.
"What we've told them for the past couple of weeks is if we can play fast and we can compete and challenge every ball, and play one, two touch soccer, we're going to be hard to play against," Whitewater head coach, Scott Schmitt said following the Wildcats' win. "The last couple of games, we've been to come out and do that," Schmitt continued as he credited his players efforts in Friday' match in addition to their three previous matches.
Now as the Wildcats continue their stretch of region matchups, Schmitt says the team will continue to focus on going from "good to great" which they discuss among themselves daily. "And how we're going to do that is just practice hard and have good work ethic in practice and transition into the game," Schmitt added. Whitewater returns to the pitch on Tuesday when they host the Fayette County Tigers.
