Therrell Panthers Volleyball "Revamping The Culture"

After splitting the day against Mount Paran and Washington, Therrell Panthers are back to work

The Therrell Panthers are off into their young season and are being led by new head coach, Katryna Greene, who comes to the Panthers after having coached at Creekside and Banneker high schools as well as Southern Spirit, a club team out of Peachtree City. With Greene at the helm, the Panthers have gotten off to a 2-3 start, opening the season with a win, in comparison to last season, in which Therrell did not earn their first victory until late in the season.

“The biggest thing is pretty much revamping the culture,” Greene said of her transition over the past few months since taking over the program. She added that with some of the young ladies being relatively new to playing volleyball, while others have never experienced the level of conditioning necessary to participate at a competitive level, ultimately the girls’ willingness to be coached has impressed her.

“I think that’s the best thing about an athlete, to build them up to do what they need to do in order to be success because the ultimate goal is to try to at least get to the next level or come back like I did to be able to give back to the youth,” Greene said of having the opportunity to coach the Lady Panthers program. And while wins and losses do matter, when it is all said and done, the importance of bonding is just as big a deal for Greene.

“To build a sisterhood because it’s definitely beyond the sports. Building character and developing their mindset that they can do anything that they put their mind to,” what Greene hopes for her players so that they are able to “navigate all aspects of life” when they are away from the court. She concluded that having the opportunity to watch them buy into what she and her staff are implementing has “been an awesome experience”.
