"This Was A Big One", Osborne Bounces Back With 4-0 Win Over South Cobb
On Friday, the Osborne Cardinals boys soccer team hit the road to take on crosstown rival, the South Cobb Eagles in a non-region match up as the Eagles looked for their second consecutive win, while the Cardinals looked to bounce back from their first loss in eight games on Tuesday. As the match got underway, the Cardinals were able to set the tone as they would control the field throughout the first half, getting several shots on goal, however unable to connect for a score.
Meanwhile, defensively Osborne, with a solid backline performance, would limit the South Cobb looks as the Eagles would have less than five shots on goal in the first half, yet the match would be scoreless by halftime. However, the Cardinals would not need long at the start of the second half to get their offense into gear as Samuel Huaracha would give them their first goal less than two minutes into the half. Minutes later, Osborne would find the back of the net as a corner kick would lead to a Oswaldo Lopez-Munoz header goal, giving them a 2-0 lead.
Munzo would later strike for his second goal of the night, assisted by Sultan Musa, as the Cardinals would take a 3-0 lead followed up by a Janiel Rios goal after another Osborne corner kick as the Cardinals picked up the 4-0 win. “This was a big one,” Osborne head coach, Aaron Foster said of the Cardinals bounce back win from their “set back” in which they fell to River Ridge earlier in the week. “After a massive result for us on the previous Friday, winning the region championship, it was to be expected and to see these guys respond like that, come out tonight, stay patient, stay disciplined and really unleash in the second half, was really good to see,” Foster said of the Osborne performance.
The Cardinals will close out the regular season next Friday, when they face the Hillgrove Hawks in a non-region match, before opening the Georgia High School Association soccer state championship tournament against Denmark on April 12.
