Trinity Christian steady progresses to historic season
On Tuesday, the Trinity Christian School Lions boys soccer team looked to bounce back from back to back losses as they traveled to Lovejoy to take on the North Clayton Eagles in region play and with the win, could post their first eight win season since joining the Georgia High School Association and landing under the direction of Coach Mike Townson. Tuesday's performance would prove to be a dominating one for the Lions as they would cruise to an 8-0 win, improving to 8-4 on the season and 2-2 in region play, with plenty of matches left to look to move up in the standings to have a chance at postseason play.
And while the Lions have put together their most impressive season as of yet, the steady progression of the Trinity Christian program has Coach Townson, now in his second season, seeing the fruits of the labor of his players come to fruition. "It's good for our program. You know year two for me coming in, they had success when they were in GISA, but we're just trying to build a culture of just winning," Townson said after the Lions notched their eighth victory of the season on Tuesday, noting the jump from GHSA single to Class 4A, gave the Lions even more of a challenge. "It's tough," Townson added.
And while the jump in classification has the Lions facing some bigger programs in region play, Townson is confident that the process in which he and his staff have put in place can help their program continue to see progress seasons after season. "We're in a really good region with LaGrange and Starr's Mill and Whitewater and so forth, but you know we do things the right way. We train our kids from third grade to 12th grade every day together and we're going to build a program, that's what we're aiming to do," Townson said.
