Tucker stays unbeaten, defeats St. Pius and North Atlanta
The Tucker Tigers kept their unbeaten record intact on Thursday after picking up wins over the St. Pius Golden Lions and North Atlanta Warriors. I the first matchup of the day, the Tigers would need double over time to pick up the 18-12 win over the Golden Lions, handing them their first loss of the season. Game two against North Atlanta would have a big margin of win for Tucker, however, the Warriors would not make it easy early on in the context.
After a slow start, the Tigers would put together a sustaining drive late in the first quarter and as time expired and the second quarter began, Tucker would reach the end zone on the first play of the period as Phaith Nash would rush for a touchdown and the Tigers taking a 7-0 lead after the extra point was successfully converted. Both teams would continue to have some offensive struggles the remainder of the first half, however in the third quarter, the Warriors would get a lift thanks to a Sophia Gonzalez rushing touchdown. North Atlanta would fail on the extra point attempt, but trail 7-6.
However on the very first play of the ensuing Tucker possession, Maliyah Davis would weeve her way through the Warriors defense in route to a 70 yard touchdown run and with the extra point, the Tigers would go up 14-6. They would seal the win later in the fourth quarter courtesy of a Nijah Lewis rushing score and Tucker would go on to pick up the 21-6 win. “Perseverance is key. When a game is a rollercoaster, up and down you just have to make sure you persevere through it and sometimes you get lucky and sometimes you make plays,” Tucker head coach Desmond Lee said after the wins.
