Upson-Lee and Ridgeland end longtime losing streaks in PSN's Notable Wins of Week 7

As of this blog, several Week 7 matchups have yet to take place due to the impact Hurricane Helene has had throughout the state of Georgia, with some matchups to take place at a later date. However, there were still some outcomes worth listing in this week’s PSN Notable Wins of the Week:

10. Calhoun def. Adairsville 24-0 – A bye week may have been just what the doctor ordered for the Yellow Jackets as their win last week helped them snap a two game win streak. And in addition to defeating Adairsville to pen up region play, Calhoun had their best defensive showing yet this season as they held the Tigers scoreless and ended their two game win streak as well.

9. Spalding def. Fayette County 47-14 – It has been a rocky start for the Jaguars, however their second win of the season is an important one as they were able to move to 2-2 in the region standings and remain within striking distance for the top four positions. With the win, Spalding will have some much needed momentum as they head into another tough region matchup when they take on Sandy Creek on Friday.

8. New Manchester def. Alexander 29-16 – The Jaguars opened the 2024 season with their best start since the 2013 season as they won their first four games of the year. However, unlike 2013 when the they would lose the next three games, the Jaguars bounced back from their loss last week with their second region win of the season to move to 2-1 in the standings and 5-1 overall in year two under head coach, Olten Downs.

7.  Stockbridge def. Jones County 28-21 – In one of the big region matchups of the week, Stockbridge’s win over Jones County lowers the number of unbeaten teams in their region to just two as the Tigers, along with Ola, who they will face this week, remain as they only to teams yet to suffer a region defeat. With Saturday, Stockbridge improves to 5-1 overall and 5-0 in the region standings as well as ends a two game losing streak to Jones County.

6. Whitewater def. Trinity Christian 32-14 – After coming out of the gate with back to back losses, the Wildcats have strung together three straight wins and their take down of Trinity Christian ends a two game losing streak to the Lions. The Wildcats also move to 3-0 in region with the win an along with Sandy Creek, are one of the only two teams that have yet to lose in region play. The Wildcats will now get set for another region opponent in LaGrange, who is riding a three game win streak as well and have just one loss in region play.

5. Central-Carrollton def. Jonesboro 31-23 – The Lions have five wins in back to back seasons for the first time since the 2014 and 2015 seasons and thanks to their win over Jonesboro, are headed in the right direction in their efforts to repeat as region champs as they improved to 2-0 in the standings, 5-1 overall. The Lions will now get ready for Starr’s Mill (PSN Game of the Week), who they will face on Friday with sole possession of first place in the region standings on the line.

4. Cedar Grove def. Mt. Zion-Jonesboro 27-20 – You have to go back as far as 2003to find a season in which the defending champs opened up a season 0-4 (2020 they forfeited first games but actually played) so last week’s win over Mt. Zion came just in time as the victory would not only give them their first win of the season, but would also allow them to improve to 1-1 in region play.

3. Ridgeland def. LaFayette 28-23 – Ridgeland finally got over the hump to snap a 34 game losing streak to LaFayette, which was their longest in school history. While it was their first win of the season, the victory allowed them to pick a win in region play as they improved to 1-1 in region standings.

2. Lee County def. Thomas County Central 35-23 – After splitting their last four meetings, Lee County snapped a two game losing streak to the defending champs and handed them their first loss of the season. With the win, the Trojans move to 6-0 overall and 1-0 in the region standings

1. Upson-Lee def. Mary Pearsons 22-20 – 11 times a charm is in this case as the Knights on Friday as they finally picked up a win over Mary Pearsons for the first time in 11 meetings between the two teams dating back to 2014. And while Upson-Lee needed three overtime periods to pick up Friday’s win, they ended their two game losing streak in doing so as well as improved to 2-2 in the region standings and currently sit in the fifth position in the standings.
