Washington Bulldogs focused on coming together 'to find a way' to reach season's goals

The Washington Bulldogs football team is just over a month away from kicking off their season when they travel to take on Hardaway on August 22 and as summer workouts continue, Washington head coach, Justen Rivers, says his players are all in on understanding the importance of coming together. “Our tag and our slogan is, ‘find a way’, Rivers said as he explaining the mindset that his players have to not allow anything keep them from what they are looking to accomplish.

“Whatever find a way is for them to get to practice, get to the game, get to where ever they need to be, they need to come together as a team and find a way to do that,” Rivers said, adding that he and his staff are looking forward to players taking on the leadership mantle. “We have different people that will be stepping up from last season,” Rivers said of the expectation of them understanding  that “we’re not the same team from last year,”

The Bulldogs completed the 2023 campaign with their second straight postseason berth as they finished fourth in the region and while the season did not end in the manner as they would have hoped for, Rivers notes that back to back playoff seasons are cornerstones for his players to build on as they prepare for the season. “That’s a big take away for us regardless of how we finished in the region, we made it to the playoffs and like we say, we find a way to get there,” Rivers continued.

And as the Bulldogs continue to put the pieces in place for what they look to be a third consecutive year of advancing to the playoffs, he believes a key component for that to happen will be how much his players support one another. “I tell them to communicate and love on each other.

I think sometimes we find ourselves on a team, but it can be a house divided at the same time, so we want to be able to love on them and them love on each other at the same time because we all know, being a sports person, we know that team is ultimately be the reason why we get over that hump,” Rivers said.
