Westlake's Malik Mixon Named Gatorade Georgia Boys Track and Field Athlete of the Year
As the Gatorade Company continued its 36th year of recognizing the top student athletes in the country, on Thursday, they announced Westlake Lions’ Malik Mixon as the 2021 Gatorade Georgia Boys Track and Field Athlete of the Year. Mixon, a 6-foot-1, 176 pound rising senior, had a dominating junior season on the track, claiming both the 110 and 300 meter hurdles 2021 Georgia High School Association Class 6A state championships.
Mixon’s 37.23 300 hurdle finish at the state championships was a personal best and the 17th best time in the nation, while he set a PR of 13.78 in 110 hurdles during sectionals, a time which was ranked the Nation’s 12th best all conditions performance for 2021 during the time of his selection for the Gatorade honor.
