Westlake's 'consistency' key to 3-0 start to season
The Westlake Lions softball team is off to their first 3-0 start since he 2016 and head coach, Tita Glover, now in her sixth season over the Lions’ program says the start has given her girls a boost they needed. “It’s really hyping them up, it’s really building their confidence,” Glover said as she shared how her players worked hard over the summer to get prepared for the season.
“Working on our bats, training girls at different positions and they are really learning to love it,” Glover added about the Lions’ growing love for “the game” and she credits their consistency for their early success. “Where ever we’ve asked them to play, they’ve played. Some of them, it might not be their primary position, but they’ve been willing to go ahead and move to a position they might not have played all the time, but they have been willing,” Glover said.
And while there is plenty of softball to go this season, Glover believes that if her players continue to work on their fundamentals, they can control how far they can take their season. “We’re going to continue to work on that bat, getting that batting practice in, that fielding practice, staying in that dirt, making sure we know where the ball is at all times on the field and just know who we’re giving the ball to at all times,” Glover said.
