Whitefield Academy completes regular season series sweeping of Coosa & Temple
On Thursday, Whitefield Academy picked up two bounce back wins as they defeated Coosa and Temple in a region tri-match, moving to 6-1 in region play and 15-7 overall, however most importantly, remaining a game behind Bremen, who defeated the Wolfpack on Tuesday, in the region standings. And while Tuesday’s loss ended a four game win streak for Whitefield, Thursday’s wins have given the Wolfpack wins in six of their last seven matches.
“We have focused on being really disciplined, focusing on the small things, really making sure our free passes are on, our sets are on and that we are keeping a lot of eye contact and eye on the ball at all times,” Whitefield Academy head coach, Courtney Ledford said after Thursday’s wins as she shared what she has seen from her players in their past several matches and throughout the season and as they look to keep momentum down the stretch.
“We’ve been down a couple players due to injury, but getting them has helped with the overall culture and feel of the team so we’re looking forward to these next few weeks,” Ledford added as the Wolfpack will head up to LakePoint Champions Center for the Rally High Tournament and then face four straight region opponents afterwards, including the an opportunity to even their regular season series with Bremen.
“Bremen was a really strong team and I think we were successful in shutting down their middle but their outsides got the best of us so we’ll be focusing on just on solid defense, on disciplined defense, making sure that we’re getting to our spots and doing what we have to do on our end,” Ledford explained of what she wants her team to work on down the stretch of the regular season.
