Whitefield Academy improves to 3-0 in region play as they edge Landmark Christian 4-3
After having their five game win streak snapped and followed by three straight losses, the Whitefield Wolfpack boys soccer team has found themselves back on track with three straight wins and most importantly, all three victories have been against region opponents, including Thursday's 4-3 win over the Landmark Christian War Eagles.
"I've learned that they don't give up," Whitefield Academy head coach, Steve Hellier said after the Wolfpack's win on over Landmark Christian, as he praised his players for their efforts in holding off the War Eagles, who battled back to tie the match 3-3 after the Wolfpack had taken a 3-1 lead. "It was a gritty win, that game could have gone either way and they stayed in it," Hellier said of watching his team edge Landmark.
"They played it to the end, they didn't lose heart after the third goal and it's very admiral and very courageous in that win," Hellier said of the final minutes of the match after Landmark's Landon Darko connected on his lone goal of the night to equalize the match late in the second half. However, with 4:28 to go in the match, a penalty called on War Eagles goal keeper Luke Thomas, would set up a penalty kick for Whitefield's Parker Shim, who would connect for the eventual game winning goal.
