Whitefield and Stratford tune up on the pitch as regular season approaches
On Monday, the Whitefield Academy Wolfpack girls soccer team hosted the Stratford Academy Eagles in a preseason scrimmage as they each prepare for the regular season. As the match got under way, the Wolfpack wasted no time getting on the attack they would have a good amount of first half possessions and take several shots on goal, but would come up short. The Eagles would eventually begin to take advantage of the missed opportunities by Whitefield and would take a 1-0 lead thanks to a Jai Stephens goal assisted by Dyan Driver, who would score three goals in the first half leading Stratford to a 4-0 lead at the break. In the second half, Whitefield would continue to find themselves with plenty of possessions and having the opportunity to take several shots, but would not be able to convert any shots into goals. Defensively, the Wolfpack also had a better half but Driver would manager to score again for the only goal of the second half and the Eagles would go on to pick up the 5-1 win. Following the match, I spoke with both coaches about just how special the feeling is of seeing their girls in action after having last season cut short due to COVID-19.
