Woodward Holds Off Forest Park For 55-51 Win And Sole Possession Of First Place In Region Standings
On Friday, the Forest Park Panthers and Woodward Academy War Eagles girls basketball teams went head to head in a key Georgia High School Association Class 5A Region 3 match up as both teams went into the game with no losses in region play. The War Eagles would come out hot taking an early 7-0 lead and go on to close out the first quarter with a 17-9 lead. In the second quarter, the Panthers come charging back as they open up the period outscoring the War Eagles 16-7 to take a 25-24 lead which would be their first of the night. They would go on to close out the second quarter with a 31-27 lead at the half. Throughout the third and most of the fourth quarter the two teams would exchange blows as if they were in a heavy weight boxing match, as the lead would change several times, but a key three point basket by Kai Lanier (10 points) with the War Eagles up 46-45 late in the fourth quarter would prove to be the punch they needed to hold on long enough to eventually pick up the 55-51 win. The War Eagles were led by Sydney Bowles who finished with 18 points, six rebounds and four steals and Sara Lewis who finished with 13 points and eight rebounds for Woodward. The War Eagles would also get a 10 rebound performance from McKenzie Moring. Forest Park would be led by Sania Feagin with 18 points and 13 rebounds with Jasmine Stevens finishing with 13 points.
